Healing The Homeless

New Dawn Ministries International Inc. (NDMI) is doing its part to address the issue of food insecurities in the homeless population. Although this in no way fully addresses the ills of homelessness, feeding the homeless helps to ease the discomfort of being without housing in America.

According to the online source, Security.Org, homelessness in the United States rose to its highest point 12.1% in 2023, since 2007. In 2024, homelessness is at an all time high. The department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD),  stated there are a record number of people that are homeless. Contributing factors include rising costs of housing, increased immigration, and termination of many Covid-19 relief programs.

In our local service area of Wilmington, Delaware,  The Point in Time (PIT) Cost Report, stated homelessness increased 9% over last year (2023). This includes children, individuals aged 55 years and older, and the black community accounts for 60% of this population.

Because NDMI is committed to addressing the needs of the whole person, we are doing our part to not only preach and teach the gospel, but demonstrate the gospel through the preparation and distribution of food supplies on a weekly basis. This is accomplished by going into those areas of the city occupied by the homeless which have been disregarded by the general population. We take the ministry to them! This is a major undertaking, and assistance is welcomed to aid in our endeavor. Partnering with others exemplifies a unified community concerned about the welfare of the marginalized and enables us to tackle the food insecurity problem more effectively.
